Expresssions are extremely valueable in programming and in Business Process Management.  cDevWorkflow had a smart and powerful expression evaluation engine, but it was time to make it smarter and more powerful.  We got many requests from our existing customer to enhance the expression engine....... So we did it, now the expression engine uses the exact same c# compiler.  Any expression that executes on Visual Studio now can be evaluated.  Here's are some examples of more complex expressions: (DateTime.Parse("11/7/2012") - DateTime.Now).Days Math.Abs(-5) * 25 (Variable.A > 5 && Variable.A Variable.start == 100 Variable.Status == "paused" || Variable.Status == "Closed" We also looked at performance improvements, expressions are not just evaluated, they are compiled into memory and evalated as compiled code.  This method give much increased performance...

In our next release we are introducing a new business intelligence feature called Variable States.  When a Workflow Instance executes, variables go through different states as each of the steps/actions executes.  cDevWorkflow takes this to the next level by rendering the values of all variables after execution each step/action.

Business Intelligence tab contains a new report that will let you select a Workflow Instance.  For the selected Instance, it will render the variable values.  Report will look as follows:

Business Process Management (BPM) software is a graphical/visualized programming method.  Just like in programming languages, variables are defined and used for storing and manipulating information in memory.  All BPM products let users define variables using different data types.

Most BPM applications define variables at the Start step since this is the only Step/Action that is available on an empty Workflow Definition.  cDevWorkflow also started off this way, you could only define a step from the Start step.

cDevWorkflow has changed this approach, based on the usability comments that we have received from our existing customers, cDevWorkflow Version 4.5 lets you define Variables from any step.



Every step is able to display the defined variables.  Clicking on the “Variables” word, users are navigated to the Variable definition page to define variables.
